A lot of people ask me about my go-to art supplies. Well I do indeed have some favourites:
Paper: I will draw on anything, even the inside of instant pudding containers (yes, I have done this) but my favourite paper is a heavy weight (min. 140 Lbs or more) hot press water colour paper…the cold press is good too, but has a more “toothy” surface…I prefer the smoother hot press, it is easier to draw and shade on.
Coloured inks for backgrounds: The two I use most are Dylusions Ink Sprays and Ecoline Water Based Ink. I sometimes wet the tile first, other times apply on a dry tile. You just need to experiment.
Black ink pens: Although I have tried soooo many, including of course the gold standard Microns, I always seem to go back to the basic Sharpie Pen for fine lines…it has a sturdy nib and seems to last forever.
Coloured pencils: Again, I have purchased so many but always come back to Prismacolour Premiers…so rich, soft, and buttery and they blend effortlessly with the Prismacolour colourless blender.
Coloured brush markers: My favourite brand is Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Brush Pens but I also love Tombow Dual Brush Pens.
White gel pen: The ONLY one I use is the Uni-Ball Signo Broad, and with gel pens, always wipe the nib with a soft cloth before each stroke…
Going to an art supply store always motivates and inspires me…seems there is ALWAYS something I “need”…
